From my pictures last night and this morning, here is a sequence of four photos, each reaching further into the heavens. The first picture shows daytime clouds, streaming west to east. Next, one of a jet shooting south to north, towards the Sun. Third, a plane flies at night across the edge of our MilkyContinue reading “A Journey of Consciousness Through the Sky”

From Fullness to Fullness: From Night into Dawn
When I went outside last night around 9 PM the sky was already dark, and the Milky Way was very clear, and colorful. First shown are two pictures of the Milky Way – Rising behind the redwoods, and another, straight up. Next, before dawn, I saw the crescent Moon. At 6 AM the Sun rose,Continue reading “From Fullness to Fullness: From Night into Dawn”
Milky Way and Satellite, August 26, 2012
The cooler weather and reduction in smoke are allowing me to get much clearer sky pictures. I took this one last night as a satellite was transiting past the Milky Way. The yellow in the atmosphere is from the Caldor Fire, near Lake Tahoe. Enjoy!
Finding a Satellite in Geosynchronous Orbit
Last night I was taking pictures of the Milky Way, and decided to zoom into the center and see what it looked like for a 30s. exposure. Of course the star trails all became quite long as their position shifted relative to the camera lens, over the 30 seconds of the exposure. Except for aContinue reading “Finding a Satellite in Geosynchronous Orbit”
Saturday’s Sunset and The Milky Way
Last night was a very clear night for sky photos. Enjoy these five pictures, and please look left on the last one to see a faint meteor trail. The International Space Station swings by this Monday night at 10:22, at a height of 65 degrees, for seven minutes. I’ll have my camera ready for thatContinue reading “Saturday’s Sunset and The Milky Way”
Sky Show: The Milky Way and Saturn
No fireworks up here during fire season, though watching from the gazebo last night the Milky Way was bright and Saturn too. Please enjoy these four photos:
Six Moons of Jupiter and A Bright Milky Way
This morning I was up early and noticed Jupiter was unusually bright. After taking several timed, tripod photos I found one that shows six of Jupiter’s moons, a first for me. The celestial clouds of the Milky Way were also prominent. Please enjoy these two photos!
The Milky Way Early This Morning
I awoke around three this morning and saw that the sky was clear, so a good time to take 30s. time exposures of the Milky Way. Here are my favorite four. In the last photo, the faint vertical track of a satellite can be seen heading northeast. Please enjoy!
The Milky Way, Meteors, and Jupiter
Just as here on Earth, the Heavens have been quite lively lately. Here are four photos from last night; a video-still of a meteor streaking in, and three exposures of the Milky Way. Every time I step outside during these clear nights, I see several meteor trails. The video-still image is one exposure of aContinue reading “The Milky Way, Meteors, and Jupiter”
